ESH Podcast # 312: Pickles & Bioshock- What More Can You Ask For?

These are a few of Panda’s favorite things Another Monday has come and the sistahs have another podcast episode for you all to enjoy. However this episode is Ninja intensive. And yes it’s because Panda was not prepared. This week’s episode heavy on the games and light on the tech–but hey at least they have […]

CES 2012: It Begins

Electronic Entertainment Expos are exhausting. There are way to many people. Not enough places to take a break and sit down. There isn’t enough time to take a break to sit down in any case on any day, so that last statement really shouldn’t matter. Four hours in you realize you aren’t going to make it to all of the appointments you set up nor are you going to be able to see much of anything because you my friend, are a single, solitary, mere mortal.

It’s a crushing realization. So, “what keeps you motivated to continually subject yourself to attending events like this?” you might ask. (You are so polite.)Razer Logo Why, all the new gadget announcements (like the one Razer made today) that restoreth my nerd soul and keep me trekking through Central Hall, when I really just want a Dove bar and a back rub.

Earlier today, Razer announced a prototype tablet device that they believe will change the mobile gaming world. They just might be on to something. Razer has always been know for turning out high performance gaming gear: easily customizable PC keyboards (Anansi), better-than-pin-point precision mice (Naga), and – to be frank – one of the better Xbox 360 controllers I’ve ever owned (Onza). Recently, Razer kicked the game up another level buy creating what they call “the world’s first true gaming laptop” (the blade) which is just a dirty, sexy, beast of a machine. Go ahead and click that link. I’ll wait until you get back to finish what I have to say.

That thing is just sick, isn’t it? Now that we both had a second to nerd out about that gorgeous gaming machine neither of us will ever own in this reality, let’s focus on a new device from Razer that isn’t quite part of this reality either.

Mistress Fiona

Project Fiona announced today at CES in Las Vegas is a prototype tablet gaming rig that the fine (read amazeballs) development team at Razer have been showing off (and are open for developers to partner with to craft some fantastic gaming experiences with) today at their booth in South Hall 3. I’ll give you the short list of why this device intrigues me. (Yes, me, the non-PC gamer.)

  1. The device will have an Intel Core i7 processor
  2. It promises to deliver Dolby 7.1 surround sound
  3. It offers both multitouch and dual honest-to-god physical controllers

In this one prototype, Razer has addressed the complaints of many mid-level to hardcore gamers that demand more than what the current mobile gaming juggernauts can provide. Gamers outside of the casual group (and even some within the group) will tell you that on their current mobile devices’ sound outright sucks. If the damned thing doesn’t have any physical buttons it should, and if it does have buttons it doesn’t have a touchscreen which makes it utterly useless. The really picky ones will mention that it doesn’t have enough power to run better looking, faster/lengthier games…which is why they went back to PC gaming/their console. I will even admit that I have fallen into that last group myself a time or two, but what Razer offers with this new prototype is unadulterated power in an ultra-portable form.

If you still aren’t very curious about the device, I’ll ask you to remember that Project Fiona is estimated to release at a sub-$1000 price (mathematics proves $999.99 ≠ $1000.00), it will run a full-on “hybrid” PC environment, and feature a 1280×800 screen resolution.

I haven’t been hands on with the device myself yet, but hope to put my little paws on it soon. Until I do, hit up the gallery and enjoy the nerdc0re photos.

Episode 234: This Is What Happens When We Miss a Week

We’re back, and with a new tangent filled episode for your enjoyment. Join the ladies this week as they talk Verizon iPhone, Thuggies, Tron Legacy and the “anime” feature flick, Princes.

NinJa kicks off the show with some thoughts about the recent release of the Apple iPhone 4 on the Verizon network and what she hopes it will mean for those who stick with the device on AT&T before going on to her new-found fascination with the Canadian created Thuggie

That get’s followed up by Pandalicious’ reaction to the Danish live-action/anime hybrid feature film, Princes which is currently available on her favorite streaming service, Netflix. To say that Princes is NSFW is an understatement. According to NinJa, it’s just pure “not safe for watching!”

Just take a listen to the episode and decide for yourself. Grab that cup of awesome and enjoy ESH: Podcast Episode 234: This Is What Happens When We Miss a Week.

iTouch 4G: It’s a Thing

Reading, it’s FUN-da-mental! Reading PR emails whilst riding public transportation home is also mental fun as well… especially when you get an email with pictures of something you aren’t supposed to know about just yet.

Technology company Apple Inc. will be holding their annual music event announcement tomorrow (which should be chock full of tech-gadgets we all drool over) and the fine folks at Hard Candy Cases have given us a glimpse at what the day will hold, literally. We Got Pics!

They (Hard Candy) call it an iTouch, the world knows it as the iPod Touch and there have been many rumors going around about how the iPod Touch was going to get a much needed upgrade which would be revealed tomorrow during the event. They were even nice enough to send along a couple of pictures of their new Street Skin case for iTouch 4G. Pictured below the iTouch 4G case looks like the standard rubber/silicone guard-type case for your iDevice and will set you back about $29.95 according to Hard Candy.

The case itself looks pretty rugged, but as you can see from the images below there is definitely a spot for a camera on the back. Take a look and tell us what you think. You planning on getting one?

Or are you going to hold out for that other rumor?

Episode 208: It’s the Sonypocalypse – DUN! DUN! DUN!

Another new Monday another new episode of the ESH podcast. We start this week’s show talking about Sony and end it in typical ESH style: completely off topic and in-appropriately.

Ninja brings up the Sony 3.41 firmware issue which is causing some unfortunate souls who do the update to end up with malfunctioning PS3 and then moves on to Amazon’s new Kindle announcement.

Pandalicious chimes in with her thoughts on the the finally released Alan Wake DLC The Signal as well as her theories about the ending of the game in general. Both sisters have been playing some Crackdown 2 this week and Panda gives you the newbie review of the game as well as thoughts on Crackdown/Gears of War comparisons.

Games and gadgets and then games again, this episode of the podcast is wall to wall fun. Need more convincing? Here are some of the titles we came up with but didn’t use:

  • The Nook E-Reader Just Sounds Dirty
  • Thank You, YouTube, for Sucking Even Less
  • Return to the Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very Very Nervous
  • If You Fall In Love In Silent Hill, Bring Along a Tether Strap
  • He Carried His Big Stick Proudly
  • What? No Cryogenics for Carmine
  • and finally
  • We Compare Videogames with the Menu at Burger King

So grab a cup of your favorite whatever and enjoy ESH Podcast Episode 208: It’s the Sonypocalypse – DUN! DUN! DUN!
